Frequently Asked Questions
The Details
I teach from kindergarten to first grade and reading age through adulthood.
Research shows that music education improves children’s satisfaction with academics and increases academic confidence. I work to instill students with a strong work ethic, and my traditional style will aid in other areas such as reading comprehension and math.
Students should be prepared in their own homes with a working instrument. Lessons incorporate flashcards, instructional materials, such as, rythym, theory, and scale books. A list of necessary items can be provided at the beginning of your sessions.
Times and the number of sessions required are decided in collaboration with you. Lessons are available Monday through Thursday.
Parents
At Chord Music Studios, I believe that the process is just as important as the outcome. Your child will show improved playing ability, but I’m also looking to improve their overall confidence and inspire them through music. What may sound like noise for a while is the process of learning, and each student will gain unique benefits fostering a love of learning that moves beyond just playing an instrument.
Students come in all shapes and sizes, and each will take a unique road when playing music. I look to tailor their teaching to their personal needs. I believe that everyone can play given patience and a desire to learn, while some will show a strong aptitude for playing immediately. In as early as a few weeks or months, a student will be able to play a short, simple song. Quality over speed is the primary goal as your child grows into an accomplished musician.
Sessions come with a standard quarterly progress report that you can use for your homeschooling or public school. Upon request, written grade reports will be made at the end of each session block that you can use in your own records.
Opportunities
Playing in your home, I recognize that the allure of music can be hard to resist. At Chord Music Studios, I’ll encourage regular break out moments during classes for flashcards, quizzes, and yes, even playing. If you’re interested in learning alongside your child, let me know when you contact me, and I’ll do my best to integrate you into our lessons.
